I started to work at Sunrise of Africa School, as its Headmaster. It was my introduction to Christian Science (C.S.) It was a challenge. I had to study and adhere to the teachings of this religion in order to implement the school policies effectively.
One morning, I was in class, teaching my Grade 4 children a Maths lesson. A 10 year old boy, who had been perceived by his classmates and other teachers to be aggressive and unco-operative, was in my class. As I was teaching, he drained ink from his pen and spread it all over his lips. On seeing it, I told him to go out and wash it off from the tap.
The boy defied my order and just stared at me defiantly. Angrily, I pulled him from his chair, pushed him out of the classroom, towards the water tap.
Seeing this, our school Supervisor explained to me that as a teacher in a C.S. school, it wasn´t right for me to handle the boy in that manner.
She advised me to study the C.S. teachings more, especially the topic about prayer in the Textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It wasn't an easy task but I obeyed and prayerfully asked God to guide me through this problem.
I then called this boy to my office. He seemed to be afraid of me, but I told him not to fear anything as I was not going to punish him. He opened up and told me about the domestic hardships he faced at home. I sent for his mother and asked her to handle the boy with more love and understanding.
I prayed for this boy whose attitude changed, and everyday before our lessons, we would shake hands. Shortly after, the boy apologized for what he had done without being prompted. This made me realize that prayer works.
I continue to study the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, who is the Founder of Christian Science.
I consider myself fortunate. I have strong role models who have been teaching me how to prayerfully handle difficult situations with love.
Try it yourself! You will discover the healing results from love and prayer.

One day I was sick and very weak. I was not even able to walk or do anything. I was just sleeping. When my Mum came from the Church, she asked me to pray together with her. I sat up and we prayed like this: "Father Mother God, loving me, guard me when I am sick, guide my little feet up to Thee." After three days, I was healed and gave thanks to God for healing me.

I have a friend called Grace. We always attend Sunday School together. One day Grace fell sick and did not come to school. I was very sad to miss her. I prayed many times for God to heal her. I said to myself that Grace wasn´t sick. After school I went to my friend´s house and we sang with her Hymn number 192 (Nearer, my God, to Thee). Grace was healed by God and she came to school the following day.

No matter who you are in life you can't live without the help of our almighty God. I Like the way Mary Baker Eddy indicates in Science and Health with Key to Scriptures that, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." (p1)
I can remember very well that it was on a Sunday night when my son (Samuel Siundu) developed a high fever...I was so confused as a parent not knowing what step to take since it was already late to rush to the hospital..it was at this very moment that I realised that it was only God's power that would be able to bring healing to my loving son. I remembered about an article in one of the Sentinel magazine about a girl who had a problem with an arm and her mum was in the same situation as I. I also remember her mother telling her to declare that God would heal her. These were the words that she said "sin and disease loose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation." (p11)
At that very moment I declared the same to my son even though it was a hard experience and just believed in praying to God. I found relief after the prayer and I believed that the healing had already taken place.
I have come to learn through Christian Science that the character-transforming, healing power of Christianity works through God and the people who believe in him. This has helped me gain more in Christian Science and start helping others hoping that this testimony will also be an inspiration to many.
